Guest Researcher Program

The program supports international researchers working with Themes.

The Guest Researcher Program support international collaborations at the Institute. Within its framework, Theme groups get to invite international colleagues to strengthen their expertise and lay a foundation for future networks. Groups may invite international experts to work closely with them during longer periods of time, from 1 - 8 months in total.

International guest researchers in Themes have ever since the start played an important role in developing interdisciplinary work at the Institute. With the Guest Researcher Program each Theme have the opportunity to invite up to three guest researchers. The program is by invitation only, researchers at Lund University applying for Themes can  nominate guest researchers in their applications. If the applications get accepted, they may invite them to join them at the Institute the following semester.

The Guest Researcher Program is funded by the LMK Foundation – a local foundation dedicated to supporting multifaceted and integrative research. So far, more than fifty scholars and scientists from all over the world have taken part in the program. They have all contributed in making Pufendorf IAS what it is today and remain invaluable assets in the extended networks of Lund University.  Read more about their work here.

What do we offer guest researchers?

Guest researchers will be remunerated for their time. An agreement will be established between respective universities and salary costs (with the exception of overhead) will - as a rule- be fully covered by Lund University. In addition the Institute will arrange and pay for travel and accommodation, provide an office and give technical and administrative support.

Who qualifies for the program?

  • To qualify for the program, guest researchers need to be nominated for specific expertise in relation to a proposed Theme. Nominated candidates are to be listed in an application for a Theme, their CVs provided and the expertise they will bring to the Themes´ work clearly outlined. Dates of their visit/s are also to be specified in the application for Theme.  
  • Guest researchers must be international; they must be established abroad and their main scientific achievements earned at institutes for higher education that are not Swedish.
  • Guest researcher´s time at the Institute may be divided into shorter stays spread over the academic year, but they must be prepared to work with the Theme on site in Lund for a minimum of 1 month.

What is required of guest researchers?

Guest researchers are expected work on site at the Institute, to participate in the Theme´s work and activities, to engage in building the Theme´s research network and to hold one open lecture in the Institute´s seminar series for guest researchers. Aside from these obligations, they have the opportunity to use the time at the Institute as a sabbatical and work on their own projects.
