International Fellows Programme

The Pufendorf IAS' International Fellows Programme support international collaborations at Lund University. Within its' framework, Theme groups may welcome international colleagues to strengthen their expertise and lay a foundation for future networks. The programme provides funding for international fellows working on site together with Themes for a minimum of 1 month and a maximum of 6, covering salary, travel and accommodation.

Who qualifies for the International Fellows Programme?

The programme is by invitation only. To qualify for the programme, candidates must be nominated for their specific expertise in relation to a proposed Theme. The Pufendorf IAS will invite international experts according to nominations made in the yearly applications for Themes.

Researchers at Lund University applying for Themes can nominate up to three international Fellows in their Theme applications. Successful Theme applicants may then welcome Fellows to work closely with them during 1 - 6 months in total; international Fellows' time at the Institute may be divided into shorter stays spread over the academic year.

The programme is exclusive for international experts, they must be established abroad, and their main scientific achievements earned at institutes for higher education outside Sweden. Researchers currently employed and settled in Sweden are generally not eligible for the programme; exceptions to this rule can be made in case employment and settlement is short-termed.

How to nominate international Fellows in a Theme application

The expertise suggested Fellows are expected to bring to the Themes' work must be clearly outlined in the Theme application and their CVs attached. Calculation of costs are not to be included in the Theme budget.

Theme applicants must verify that nominees have been approached and have expressed a readiness to accept an invitation. Nominees must have conveyed a willingness to be part of the Theme on site for at least one month in total during the duration of the Theme. Should the Theme be accepted, the Institute will formally invite nominated Fellows and negotiate agreements with Fellows and the hosting Themes.

Suggested dates for Fellows visit/s are to be stated in the application, but the Institute grants flexibility when it comes to dates; timeframes may well be discussed and subjected to change after Fellows have been invited.

What do we offer international Fellows?

International Fellows will be remunerated for their time. An agreement will be established between respective universities and with the exception of overhead, salary costs will be covered by Lund University, either fully or in part. As a rule of thumb, the Institute will offer fulltime remuneration in accordance to expected salary of respective experts' profession typically earned at Lund University. In certain cases, employment for the duration may be a possible as an alternative to remuneration via agreement. In addition to salary, the Institute will arrange and pay for Fellows' travel and accommodation, provide offices and administrative support.

What is required of international Fellows?

Invited Fellows are expected to work on site at the Institute, to participate in the Theme's work and activities and to engage in building the Theme's research network. Aside from these obligations, international Fellows have the opportunity to use the time at the Institute as a sabbatical and work on their own projects.
