A Sustainability Debate: challenges for the degrowth transition; the debate about wellbeing

Seminarium
As part of the current debate on Sustainability, degrowth scholars have convincingly argued that degrowth in developed nations will need to be part of a global effort to tackle climate change, and to preserve the conditions for future generations’ basic needs satisfaction. Atlas Award, in collaboration with the The Pufendorf IAS, will host a debate on the topic on Wednesday, 30th of October.

The Atlas Award, organized by Elsevier, is assigned by an Advisory Board of global NGOs to academics who have published research that impacts people's lives around the world. The awarded research - Challenges for the degrowth transition: The debate about wellbeing by Professor Max Koch (Lund University, Socialhögskolan) and Dr Milena Büchs (University of Leeds): https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0016328718300715?via%3Dihub – will be the starting point for a debate on the political and institutional preconditions for a degrowth transition. Obstacles and concerns about possible short- to medium term wellbeing outcomes of degrowth, that is, how a transition away from the current growth model might affect wellbeing and likely to clash with people’s values and current expectations of ever improving health and wellbeing outcomes, will be in the centre of the debate.
