CogSec-Camp: Cognitive Security on Campus

ASG 2026

Rising geopolitical tensions and disinformation campaigns make safeguarding research integrity more urgent than ever. Universities today are therefore not only centres of learning, but they are also part of the global security landscape.

Universities face risks from cyberattacks, espionage, and cognitive warfare where disinformation and political interference target scientific thinking. The ASG explores how Swedish academia can protect research from emerging threats without compromising academic freedom. The focus is twofold:

  • how risk assessments have changed in light of today’s security environment, particularly regarding political influence on scientific processes, and
  • how individuals, research groups, and institutions can counter the misuse of research in cognitive warfare

Through collaboration with the Swedish Defence Research Agency and Lund University Center for Preparedness and Resilience (LUPREP), the ASG aims to raise awareness, share best practices, and develop proportionate safeguards that uphold integrity and resilience in a rapidly changing world.
