About the Pufendorf IAS

The Pufendorf IAS (Pufendorfinstitutet) is an inter- and transdisciplinary institute at Lund University. The aim is to be a creative forum, an incubator for new ideas and a springboard for new research initiatives.

The Pufendorf IAS offers opportunities for researchers to work together on problems across subject and faculty boundaries – finding better answers to questions through cooperation. Work is carried out in large group based research activities called “themes” or, in smaller constellations, “Advanced Study Groups”.

Every year we welcome several international visiting research fellows, who work with us on our themes. We arrange conferences, workshops and symposia and issue a series of publications that describe what is happening in the various projects hosted by the Pufendorf IAS.

The Pufendorf IAS is housed in the beautiful old building built for the Department of Physics in 1886, and we rent out both a lecture hall and a seminar room to the University. Visitors are welcome to contact us for appointments to see the plaster casts of Greek statues that adorn the institute – a reminder of the history of the building. Our monthly lunchtime concerts provide a good opportunity for the public to enjoy the inspiring environment. Both classical and modern music is on the programme, which often features string quartets, and admission is always free.
