At the Pufendorf Institute, researchers come together to work beyond the boundaries of their usual disciplines. It is a space where ideas can be tested before they take the shape of formal projects, where colleagues meet across faculties, and where questions that require more than one perspective can be explored in depth.

On 1 February, three brand new Advanced Study Groups will begin their work. Their mere titles suggest that 2026 will be an exciting year at the Institute!

Rising geopolitical tensions and disinformation campaigns make safeguarding research integrity more urgent than ever. Universities today are therefore not only centres of learning, but they are also part of the global security landscape.

Anomalous Agenda

Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) have fascinated humanity for centuries, ranging from mysterious lights in the sky to sensor data and close encounters that defy conventional explanation. Such events challenge our understanding of nature, technology, and even our place in the universe.

Interconnections within STEAM

Science and art might seem worlds apart, but what happens when they join forces? How can these disciplines truly collaborate - not just coexist - to spark new ideas and transform research?

More in common than one might think

Despite their very different research questions, the Advanced Study Groups share a curiosity‑driven approach and a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration. It is no coincidence that the Pufendorf Institute is their “home”: this is where ideas are allowed to grow before they become projects ready for conventional research funding. It is also where researchers can meet without the pressure of deliverables.
