What is Pufendorf Academy?

Pufendorf Academy – a programme about interdisciplinarity "in practice"

The Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies serves as an incubator for new interdisciplinary ideas and research areas, and we want to encourage more researchers at Lund University to engage in interdisciplinary research. In addition to our annual calls to start interdisciplinary groups here, we have now started the Pufendorf Academy.

What is Pufendorf Academy?

Every year, researchers are nominated for the LMK Foundation's Idéforum, an initiative that focuses on the conditions and opportunities of cross-border research. It takes place during a weekend in a scenic environment.

Pufendorf Academy picks up where Idéforum left off, as a way to capture the curiosity about interdisciplinarity that has been aroused and translate it into action.

The programme is for those who have participated in Idéforum and:

  • Want to identify and expand their network within Lund University – but don't know where to start Want to take on interdisciplinary research ideas in interdisciplinary teams – but don’t know how or with whom
  • Want to find new/other external funding, infrastructure, publishing opportunities – but don't know how or where
  • Want to develop productivity, writing and research communication – but now in an interdisciplinary context
  • Want to come to the academic oasis – the Pufendorf Institute – from time to time

What workshops are included in Pufendorf Academy?

Starting in October, participants at the Pufendorf Institute will meet once a month to engage in workshops that have interdisciplinary research as a unifying common thread. All workshops will assist participants in solving actual problems that may arise in everyday academic life. The programme ends in May/June the following year.

Pufendorf Academy consists of eight different workshops. In addition, participants are expected to do a couple of tasks during the programme period. The workshops are:

  • Interdisciplinary teams – how do they work? And you in them? (October)
  • Productivity in an interdisciplinary context (October)
  • From disciplinary scholarship to interdisciplinary publications (November)
  • Writing for The Conversation (December)
  • Interdisciplinary Research Communication (January)
  • What should you think about before publishing? What support is available? (March)
  • Present your interdisciplinary research idea (April)
  • How do you apply for (and get) external funding (focus on interdisciplinary research)? (June)
